The goal of gestalt psychotherapy is for clients to become aware of what they are doing, how they are doing it, and how they can try new behaviours, while at the same time, to accept and value themselves.

In my psychotherapy work, I support my clients as they cross the challenging, mysterious, and enlivening thresholds of life. I am a PACFA registered Gestalt psychotherapist and am passionate about change, embodiment, and relationships. For me, being a psychotherapist is both a spiritual practice and a great privilege to do deep work shoulder-to-shoulder with my clients.

My approach

My approach is grounded in Gestalt's holistic, non-pathologising philosophy, believing in our inherent wholeness, resilience, and interconnectedness. I support my clients to deepen their understanding of how they relate to themselves and their world, enabling more choice and new possibilities.

My work is embedded in a somatic (body-based) approach that enhances my clients' connection to mind and body and helps them get to the root of underlying issues, supporting their healing and growth. Drawing on my decade as an Open Floor teacher—a therapeutic movement practice—I foster greater mind-body awareness. I integrate other trauma-informed approaches such as Somatic Experiencing, Parts Work (i.e. gestalt and Internal Family Systems), Attachment Theory, and Mindfulness, to support my clients.

However, as research consistently shows, the therapeutic relationship itself is the most crucial factor in effective therapy. I aim to create a welcoming environment that supports clients in expanding their awareness and developing the inner resources needed to embrace life's challenges.

Working with me

I work with clients navigating life's transitions and challenges, relationship issues and longings, grief, trauma healing, depression, anxiety, purpose, meaning, and creativity. Some seek support through specific thresholds; others pursue change and growth. In our initial meeting, we connect to ensure compatibility and identify therapy goals.

Drawing on my own therapy experiences, I deeply respect the courage it takes to reach out for support. I offer open-ended and fixed-term therapy for adults, in-person in the inner-north of Melbourne and online.

I know it can be hard to choose a therapist between all the approaches and wordiness of it all, if you're interested in working together, I invite you to book a free short phone consultation so we can connect and explore if we're a good fit.

Fees and sessions

While I don't offer Medicare rebates, my fees are similar to the out-of-pocket expenses you would pay to a psychologist. For medium or long-term therapy, my services are likely more affordable. I offer some discount spots for those in need and rebates from some health care funds.

FAQs

  • Gestalt therapy is a phenomenological-existential therapy that focuses on enhancing awareness to promote change and growth. In Gestalt therapy, feeling, sensing and acting are distinguished from interpretations and explanations of events. Clients and therapists in Gestalt therapy communicate about their unique perspectives and these differences in perspectives become the focus of experimentation and continued dialogue. The goal is for clients to become aware of what they are doing, how they are doing it, and how they can try new behaviours, while at the same time, to accept and value themselves (Yontef).

  • Psychiatrists have completed a medical degree and have undergone extra training in order to be licensed to diagnose mental illness and prescribe medication, often for people who are experiencing very debilitating symptoms. A psychiatrist also monitors the effects of medication and mental illness on physical health.

Psychologists have professional training in human emotions and behaviour and are licensed to conduct assessments and use counselling and psychotherapeutic approaches to help people to cope more effectively with their life issues and mental health problems.

Psychotherapists have undergone a range of possible training programs that are regulated under PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia). Psychotherapists tend to work on a more long-term basis to assist clients to learn about their patterns of relating to the world of which they may not be fully aware, and thus to develop richer, more flexible ways of thinking and interacting in life.

Although the terms counselling and therapy are often used interchangeably, counselling tends to focus on specific short term issues such as problem solving or learning specific skills for coping with particular problems, whereas psychotherapy usually refers to more long-term work.
